Kamala Harris Calls Trump a Fascist During CNN Town Hall

Vice President Kamala Harris participated in a CNN town hall on Wednesday night in Chester Township, Pennsylvania, instead of engaging in a proposed debate rematch with Donald J. Trump.

 During a CNN town hall event in Pennsylvania on Wednesday evening, Vice President Kamala Harris boldly labeled former President Donald J. Trump a fascist. This assertion adds significant weight to a narrative that has been gaining traction among Democratic ranks, who have long portrayed Trump as anti-democratic, unfit for office, and embroiled in criminal behavior. 

Early in the discussion, Harris swiftly affirmed her stance when host Anderson Cooper asked whether she believed Trump fit the definition of a fascist. “Yes, I do,” she responded emphatically, underlining her conviction with clarity and urgency. 

As the conversation progressed, the topic shifted to the situation of Palestinians in Gaza. Harris seized the opportunity to intertwine this critical issue with her critique of Trump, emphasizing the broader implications of his leadership. “Many people who care about this issue also care about bringing down the price of groceries,” she stated, highlighting the interconnected nature of political concerns. Furthermore, she asserted the importance of preserving democracy, remarking on the dangers of having a U.S. president who “admires dictators” and embodies fascist tendencies.

Harris’s comments came in light of recent statements from John Kelly, the former White House chief of staff, who expressed alarm over the potential threats a second Trump presidency could pose to democratic institutions. His remarks added context to Harris's heightened rhetoric, suggesting that even within former Trump administration ranks, there is recognition of the jeopardy associated with Trump's authoritarian inclinations.

Despite Harris's candid attacks, Trump’s camp remained largely silent. He declined an invitation to participate in a second debate. He did not accept CNN’s offer to join a similar forum, leaving his critics to shape the narrative without direct rebuttal from him. Harris’s remarks not only aimed to elevate the conversation surrounding Trump but also sought to mobilize support among voters who may be grappling with various pressing issues.
