Trump and Harris exchange sharp attacks as 2024 race starts again.

The race for the 2024 presidency has commenced with a flurry of high-stakes exchanges between Vice President Harris and former President Donald Trump. The contest unfolded against the backdrop of a charged atmosphere, with Harris delivering a rousing address to a sizable audience at Zeta Phi Beta's Grand Boulé in Indianapolis.

Her speech underscored a proactive, forward-looking approach, setting the tone for her campaign. In a swift rebuttal, Trump seized the spotlight by hosting his first rally since President Biden's departure, employing scathing rhetoric to cast Harris as a "radical" liberal while levelling pointed criticisms across a spectrum of policy issues.

These initial appearances provided a tantalising glimpse into what political strategists anticipate will be a fiercely contested showdown in the months ahead. Notably, Harris has set the ambitious target of choosing her running mate by August 7, a decision that could significantly shape the trajectory of her campaign.

Meanwhile, Trump's team is gearing up for what they foresee as a potential spike in Harris's popularity, though they anticipate it to be short-lived. A recent CNN poll underscored Harris's edge over Biden in a hypothetical race against Trump, particularly resonating with young voters, women, and Black and Hispanic voters. Interestingly, both the Harris and Trump events unfolded indoors, with the latter experiencing medical concerns due to the summer heat.

During her appearance at the Grand Boulé, Harris received thunderous applause from the audience, fervently championing President Biden as "a leader with a bold vision" while expounding on her policy initiatives. These exchanges have provided a tantalising preview of the political theatre that is set to unfold in the coming months as the presidential race gains momentum.
